Task 2
Hey guys, for Visual Communication Design task 2 I have to create a website on Abode XD. I have no experience with XD so this should be interesting, however I have used WIX before. The process will involve designing logos, a site map, layouts and graphics, and researching and choosing a typeface, colour palette, and overall topic/purpose.
Define – Brainstorm:

I started out with a brainstorm, however from the start I wanted to do a city precinct website based on my hometown Cronulla. I simply expanded on this idea as I personally know a lot about Cronulla and can build a website based from this knowledge, with little need for research.
Research:

Mood boards:

I constructed two different mood board to guide my design aesthetic. The first holds a more mature and relaxed vibe and is gender neutral. Whereas, the other is a lot more fun, bright and colourful, however the colours and graphics sway towards young girls. Whilst I do like both mood boards, I have chosen to base my website off the first one as it is more fit to the purpose of being a town precinct website, which will attract an older and diverse audience.
Develop – Rationale:
The Cronulla site will show users what the town has to offer, with the main pages of the site being – ‘Place to go and see’, ‘Things to do’, and ‘Places to eat and drink’, along with additional help and information pages. The website will suit a large range of adult users and aims to promote Cronulla as a worthy destination with lots to offer local residents and tourists.
The main features will focus on providing information on all the local hotspots and activities available in Cronulla, including their locations on a map and contact info. I may include social media accounts of cafes, restaurants and bars, along with some reviews and ratings also.
I plan to make my user experience design really simplistic and easy to navigate. The home page will show all the main page options available on the site and each page will offer a back button to maximise a smooth user experience and satisfaction.
The website’s user interface design will be highly aesthetic, offering a relaxing beach vibe to a mature and modern user base. Links to pages will be identified through images and graphics to offer interactive touch points and visual stimulates. Pages will also transition smoothly.
Develop – Style guide:

I have designed a bunch of logos around the elements of a sun, palm trees and surf. These elements are characteristics of a beach, which reflect the coastal town of Cronulla. I played around with a lot of variations; however, every logo consists of a black outline. This is highly simplistic to convey a relaxed and simple beach vibe. I wanted to incorporate san serif font with a cursive typeface for visual effect. It makes ‘Cronulla’ stand out and easy to read with ‘beach’ adding a point of interest and flow.
Ideate – Site Map:

This map is very simplistic, however highly repetitive. This creates consistency for users but based on the amount of time given for the project and assessment requirements, I will be cutting out certain pages, without damaging the functionality of the site. This map shows what it could be in realistic terms.
Stay tuned for the next update!
