Hey, my name is Kayla and I am currently completing my Communications and Media degree, majoring in Marketing and Visual Communication Design. This year I managed to turn an unpaid internship into causal employment as a Junior Graphic Designer for a large creative and digital agency, Daily Press. A skill crucial in achieving this goal that I learnt in school and have continued to develop, is my skill in designing in Adobe software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Learning and enhancing this skill has opened many doors for me and helped me to uncover my career path and goals. I am loving my job and the newfound capacity to create designs from thin air.
This direction was something I knew was always in the cards. At the beginning of Highschool, I wanted to be a cameraman/women as I love film but my skill in the visual arts, multimedia technology and business studies really pushed through in year 12 and I found myself creating some really cool major work productions. I knew my eye for design and its integration with technology and business knowledge would make me an ideal candidate for graphic design and branding development.
I enrolled in my current degree and have continued to learn and enhance my skills through practice and a variety of assignments. My internship gave me even more on the job and realistic workplace experience. My design skills are still growing by the day and I am very excited to see what I create in the future. Maybe one day I will run my own design team or own a marketing agency focused on creating promotional design content. I thoroughly enjoy being able to see a mental idea or picture come to live for a client that simply doesn’t know how.
Here are some of the outcomes my learnt skill has created.
